Pre-Match Report

U21s preview | Liverpool v Arsenal

nbo

Our young Gunners will conclude their Premier League 2 regular season campaign away at Liverpool on Sunday, April 28. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm (UK).

Currently positioned sixth in the league standings, we have amassed 33 points from 19 games. However, the league table remains tightly contested, with just three points separating Reading in fourth place with 34 points, and Middlesbrough in ninth with 31 points.

In our recent match against Blackburn Rovers, we were held to a 2-2 draw. Initially opening a two-goal lead through a wonder strike from Jurrien Timber, who marked his return from an ACL injury suffered in August, and an Amario Cozier-Duberry penalty. But, we were unable to maintain our advantage as Blackburn staged a comeback with two quick-fire goals, resulting in the teams sharing the points.

A look at Liverpool

Liverpool currently occupy 7th position in the league standings, having accumulated 33 points from 19 matches. Remarkably, ourselves, the Reds and Chelsea are all tied on 33 points, with their positions determined by goal difference. Chelsea boasts a +19 goal difference, we follow with +12, and Liverpool trails with +9.

In their most recent outing, Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland. Spearheading their attack is Lewis Koumas, who has been instrumental with eight goals and four assists in 12 league games this season. Notably, Koumas scored on his full Liverpool debut during their 3-0 victory over Southampton in the FA Cup back in February.

With both teams vying for favourable play-off seeding, this match holds significant importance. Securing a top-eight finish ensures the advantage of hosting the first play-off game at home.
